Climbing Scafell Pike

everyone smilingScafell Pike is England’s highest peak at 978 metres above sea level. Ascending it is a popular walking challenge.

Region: The Lake District (Cumbria)

The Challenge: To reach the top of Scafell Pike (and get back down!)

Distance: 10 km from the Wasdale Head start point. Other starting points are available.

Price: From £22 per head

Climbing Scafell Pike is a popular day out both for is superb views and the lure of becoming the highest person on English soil!

Our usual route starts and finishes at Wasdale Head which is home to a car park as well as a pub. After meeting our guides for a safety briefing here it usually takes approximately 6 hours for a reasonably fit group to climb the mountain and arrive back at Wasdale Head.

The price will vary depending upon the size of the group and the number of guides employed. One guide will cost £236 and can lead a group of up to 11 people. Some groups may choose to employ a second leader which will increase their chances of being able to continue to the summit in the event of a group member having to drop out on the ascent.

Price includes:

  • Fully qualified guides to lead you on the route and to be on hand to deal with any incident
  • Safety briefing
  • Use of equipment from our stores (including boots, waterproofs and rucksacks)
  • Advice on what kit you will need and how to prepare for this challenge

Packed lunches can be provided at the cost of £5 per head. Please let us know if you wish these to be suitable for specific diets for example vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, etc.

Challenge Event Feedback

"The staff were absolutely fantastic in every way. They were very professional and excellent with the (quite lively) kids. The 2 trainees were also fantastic. We can't praise them all highly enough.

The kids had a great day and are all so proud of themselves. Some of them have never left Nottingham before and some of them turned up with just a carrier bag and a pair of trainers ... The positive impact of the achievement on these kids is huge.

Thank you so much."

"The booking process was really straightforward. Andy got back to our request really quickly and was able to tailor the challenge to our exact requirements; reducing the cost of the walk considerably meaning more of our fundraising could go towards our appeal!

I am so glad we decided to go with Lupine Adventure rather than trying to take on the challenge alone. Andy and Nick’s knowledge of the route ensured we felt at ease throughout the challenge. Andy and Nick were seen as part of the team, rather than as instructors who were separate from our group. They were fantastic at keeping our moral up throughout the entire challenge, especially at our lowest points and I’m sure we wouldn’t have completed the walk in 10.5 hours without them! If we were ever to take on a similar challenge in the future, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Andy. "

"We just wanted to say we thought Siobhan was absolutely brilliant on Saturday when she got 11 of us up to the Snowdon Summit. We all had such an amazing experience and will never forget it. Siobhan was so encouraging and helpful and there is no way we would have made it without her I'm so glad we booked a guide! We chose to come down a different way which was amazing as we got to see some awesome scenery and to experience two different paths.
We will not hesitate to use you in the future as we are already planning our next trip."

Both Charlie and Trev showed good leadership skills and were very helpful to all members of Team Age UK.

I have no hesitation in recommending Lupine Adventure Co-op and the excellent service they provide, to any other group who are doing a similar challenge event.

"We were a mixed mostly corporate group of 20 who wanted to walk the Welsh 1K. Andy Godfrey (Lead ML) set up a great route and we were joined by ML's Patrick and Richie on the day. Everything about Lupine was professional. Not only did Andy and his team do what they said they were going to do, they made a tough day enjoyable. When difficult decisions had to be made they didn't abrogate to the group leader, they took them finding the right balance. Our group had a fantastic time and will use Lupine again on next years challenge without hesitation. "
