Food policy
We shop as ethically as practical for our Vegetarian Walking Holidays. What this means in practise is that we will buy primarily from other workers' co-operatives, farmers markets and local independent shops. Where possible we will buy as much local organic produce as we can and we will avoid buying in air freighted fruit and vegetables. The tea and coffee we buy will be Fairtrade certified. We will only buy from supermarkets as a last resort. All meals and cakes will be suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Sample Menu
Breakfast: Every morning we will have, as a minimum muesli, fresh fruit juice, soya milk, toast and spreads (tahini, yeast extract, marmalade, peanut butter, humous etc.) available. We will probably be up before you baking bread for the day too.
Lunch: After Breakfast we'll re-arrange the table so you can make your lunches. In addition to the freshly made bread and spreads we'll usually have pasties filled with vegetable curry, spinach, re-fried beans, roast Mediterranean vegetables, garlic mushrooms (basically any left overs from the previous nights meal :-), sandwiches, cake, fresh fruit, trail mix (dry fruit and nuts) and some flapjack.
Cake: We'll endeavor to maintain the supply of cake meaning that there will be vegan cake every day when we return from our walk
Dinner: We will be serving an internationally inspired menu for dinner. Expect to eat Italian, Indonesian, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Scottish and Moroccan and of course English themed meals. This could be dhal, braised spinach and brown basmati rice on Indian night or fried tempeh, peanut sauce, stir fry vegetables and noodles on Indonesian night..
