This holiday was originally planned for 2008 and has now run its course. If you would like us to run this holiday for you in the future then please get in touch. We can run it (or something similar) for you and a group of friends or we can advertise it to see if we get others interested.

Glen Coe and the surrounding area is breathtaking both figuratively and literally. Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK rises from Sea level to its 1343m in only 6km. Indeed, Glen Coe probably means ‘narrow glen’. The Glen is famous for both it’s beauty and infamous for its history, namely the massacre of 1692 which occurred as part of the government’s efforts to suppress the Highlands and its troublesome residents.

This trip runs from Saturday 5th July to Saturday 12th. We'll pick you up from Fort William railway station at any time to suit you from 3pm on the 5th.

glencoeAccomodation.

We'll be staying in one (or both) of the Glencoe Mountain Cottages . Each cottage sleeps 6 in one double, one twin and one room with two adult sized bunk beds. If more than 6 people book then we will attempt to book the other cottage and start to fill that one up. So book early to avoid disappointment (and to have first choice of rooms). If the second cottage is already booked out we'll have to close bookings when we get to 6 people. There is no single supplement but if you are holidaying on your own you may be asked to share a twin room if necessary. If you would like to discuss this further then please don't hesitate to get in touch .

What we'll get up to.

Ben Nevis

Well, obviously there is the option to climb Ben Nevis. Depending on the group, we will either go up the usual zig zags on the east side of the mountain, or, alternatively go round the back to take in the spectacular Carn Mor Dearg Arete. With a bit of judicious route planning (and by taking the zig zags down) the second route is only a couple of kilometres longer it is, however, a bit airy in places so bring your head for heights. If necessary we will split the group and take some one way and the rest the other route, we may even get to meet on the top if the arete group get going early enough.

Hidden Valley

Glen Coe contains the Hidden valley. Until the mid 1700's this valley was used to hide The McDonalds clan's stolen cattle (the McDonalds were notorious cattle thieves, this is one of the reasons given for the bitter rivalry between them and the Campbell's that made the Massacre possible). We can take a walk up the valley, to the cattle grazing plateau attain the ridge at the head and walk back down to our accommodation.

walkoffBuachaille Etive Mor

Buachaille Etive Mor is a ridge containing 4 peaks. The most famous being Stob Dearg. Stob Dearg is the classically shaped mountain at the extreme east of the Glen Coe valley. The going will be very slow for the first 2 kilometres as we attain the ridge, after which the walking gets easier and the views get better. We'll take in the other 3 peaks, Stob na Dorie, Stob Corie Altruim and Stob Na Broig before making our way back down to the Lairig Gartain where our vehicles will be waiting to take us back to the cottage in time for tea and medals.
