The Old County Tops
Region: The Lake District
The Challenge: A circular route from Grasmere, over the summits of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man.
Distance: 56 km (35 miles)
An historical route taking in the highest peaks of the 'Old Counties': Helvellyn for Westmorland, Scafell Pike for Cumberland and Coniston Old Man for Lancashire. The Old County Tops is perhaps more achievable (and more beautiful) than the Lakes 3000ers, but is undoubtedly a worthy challenge.
