Open DofE Expeditions For Individuals
We run two sorts of Open Award programmes for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition section.
Firstly, we run full open programs including training, practice expedition and qualifying expedition. For more information about our 2013 program go down to the bottom of this page.
Secondly, If you have engaged in expedition training but need to complete a practice or qualifying expedition you could take part in one of our open award expeditions. People sometimes have to drop out of their original expedition teams due to Injury, illness, family pressures etc. If you are trained and need to join with others to complete an expedition then read on.
We will be running Silver and Gold expeditions in 2013 in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
These expeditions include no training. They are designed for individuals who, for whatever reason, could not complete their practice or qualifying expeditions as planned. We will need to see proof that you have received full expedition training.
Open Gold 3 day Practice Expedition only. Location: Ilkely
£175 Book by 25th May for a 10% discounted price of £155.

This expedition can count as either a practice or a qualifying expedition. Upon booking, and after we've decided where we will be running the expedition (if you have a preference between the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District then let us know), you will be given the grid references of the campsites and assigned a day to route plan before the expedition.
On the afternoon of 27th we will meet up and go through a navigation and emergency procedures refresher and a kit check. You will need to bring your own food for the duration of the expedition and a meal for the first evening or money to buy food in a nearby pub.
This price includes 4 nights camping fees and any equipment you have to borrow (other than tens for which there is a £20 hire charge).

2013 Silver Expedition Training, Practice Expedition and Qualifying Expedition programme.

For 2013 we are running a Silver open award package that will include all training and the Practice Expedition in one 6 day stint and then the Qualifying Expedition at the end of August.
We will run 3 evenings and two days of training followed immediately by a 3 day and 2 night practice expedition. During your training you will cover all areas of the DofE expedition syllabus and plan you practice expedition. You will then immediately go out on your practice expedition. We will then say goodbye and give you a couple of months to recover, reflect on, and practice what you have learnt. We will then reconvene and complete the Qualifying Expedition in August
During the training element of this course food and accommodation is included in the price. Once you are on the practice expedition (and then later on the qualifying expedition) you will have to supply your own food. All campsite fees are included. There will be an opportunity to buy food the day before the practice expedition (after the menu planning instruction).
