One Day Navigation training for Duke of Edinburgh's Award Students

map reading

The ability to navigate successfully and confidently when on expedition will make the whole experience much more enjoyable. The physical demands of the expedition at Silver and Gold level are high enough without adding on extra miles and stress due to navigational errors and unsurity.

This is a one day refresher course is designed for Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold and Silver candidates. We will spend a day with you on Ilkley moor, West Yorkshire, instructing you on map and compass work as well as other navigation skills.

We will cover a range of techniques including

  • Map orientation
  • Hand-railing, tick features, catchments and overshoots
  • Reading contours
  • Compass work for route finding and relocation
  • Other relocation techniques and strategies for when lost

If you have a qualifying expedition coming up at either Silver or Gold level and think you would benefit from this one day refresher then please do get in touch.
