Food policy

We shop as ethically as pracical for our Vegetarian Walking Holidays. What this means in practise is that we will buy primarily from other workers' co-operatives, farmers markets and local independent shops. Where possible we will buy as much local organic produce as we can and we will avoid buying in air freighted fruit and vegetables. The tea and coffee we buy will be Fairtrade certified. We will only buy from supermarkets as a last resort. All meals and cakes will be suitable for vegans and vegetarians. If we do end up buying milk and cheese we will ensure that it is organic.

Sample Menu

Breakfast: Every morning we will have porridge, muesli, fresh fruit juice, smoothies, soya milk, organic cows milk, toast and spreads (tahini, yeast extract, marmalade, peanut butter etc) available. We will also cook you a veggie sausage or tempeh bacon sandwich if you want something hot.

Lunch: Packed lunches will be provided and will typically contain a homebaked pasty, sandwiches, cake, fresh fruit, trail mix (dry fruit and nuts) and some flapjack. Fillings for the pasties will include vegetable curry, spinach and chickpeas, roast mediterranean vegetables and garlic mushroom. Sandwich fillings will range from roast veg with houmous, BLT (tempeh bacon, lettuce & tomato), organic Scottish cheese and pickle and homemade mushroom pate. We will be baking bread, cakes and flapjack throughout the week for you to enjoy.

Dinner:We will be serving an internationally inspired menu for dinner. Expect to eat Italian, Indonesian, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Scottish and Moroccan themed meals. This could be daal, braised spinach and brown basmati rice on Indian night or fried tempeh, peanut sauce, stir fry vegetables and noodles on Indonesian night.  After a short break to allow your dinner to settle we will offer you desert. This could be apple crumble and custard, lemon drizzle cake or a chocolate brownie....
