Currently I am based in Lancaster, studying for a BSc in Outdoor Studies at the University of Cumbria which I started in 2006 aged 32. This course has given me the opportunity to combine my love of the outdoors with the study of ecology and educational theory. I have previously spent 2 years at Thomas Danby College in Leeds studying for a BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Outdoor Education).
I'm a keen climber, scrambler, hillwalker and mountaineer. I'm a qualified climbing instructor (Single Pitch Award) and trained Mountain Leader.
The most satisfying experiences of my life have taken place whilst walking and camping in the Scottish Highlands. Sitting by a Sea Loch birdwatching, walking through ancient Scotch Pine in Glen Affric or standing on a mountain summit admiring the view.
As an outdoor educationalist I believe that we shouldn't simply consume and participate in activities but we should give back far more than we take. I'm a member of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, British Mountaineering Council, the Mountain Bothies Association and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. I also support the work of Treesponsibility, a tree-planting group based in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
