Andy Godfrey - Summer Mountain Leader
Andy Climbing at GogathAndy has been a keen rock climber, hill walker and mountaineer since about the age of 14. He has spent the subsequent years exploring mountainous areas of the British isles. More recently Andy has become increasingly interested in developing winter skills (snow and ice) and has spent time in Scotland every winter for the last six years. Additionally, in January 2007 Andy spent 2 weeks on a hiking and camping trip to the Pyrenees with Dave.

After leaving school and a 4 year spell working for BT he undertook and subsequently completed a Sport Science degree. Now, 12 years on, he is finding it hard to believe that he is actually mentioning it as a fairly relevant qualification, in context, for the first time.

He trained as a single pitch rock climbing instructor (SPA) in 1996 but didn't do the assessment as he thought that teaching climbing may 'take away the magic' he felt in participation. Now that the salad days are over and the magic has pretty much gone he is considering starting the process again.

Since qualifying as a Mountain Leader in 2004 he has split his paid work between freelancing as a Mountain Leader (working in Scotland and Cumbria) and as a printer in another workers' co-op he helped to set up 7 years ago.

Andy also spends an ever increasing number of weekends each year volunteering with the Leeds City Council Duke of Edinburgh's open award Scheme*. His involvement includes teaching mountain craft and camping skills, as well as supervising the groups on the hills both in close contact and remotely.

Andy enjoys, Mountaineering, setting up co-operative ventures and writing in the third person.
