Vegetarian Walking Holidays in Scotland

Walking Holidays in Scotland

cullin walk inWelcome to Lupine Adventure, we hope you’ll be joining us on one of our walking holidays in the summer of 2008. We’ll show you some of our favourite parts of Scotland by day and dish up some fantastic vegetarian and vegan food in the evenings.

All the walking holidays are a week long (running Saturday to Saturday). If you are interested in a trip but it is fully booked, or perhaps you'd prefer to go in May, contact us and we'll get in touch with details of cancellations or extra holidays.

Keep reading for general information on how we run our walking holidays, otherwise choose a holiday from the menu on the left for more specific details.

What is special about a Lupine Adventure Co-op walking holiday?

No matter which holiday you book on there are some things that you can always rely on.

Your group will probably consist of 6-10 of you and at least two guides. If more than ten people book then we’ll bring an extra member of staff.

At the start of the holiday we will all go out walking together while we get to know each other and find out what everyone in the group wants to get out of the holiday. This will help us to plan which routes to walk later in the week. On these days one guide will stay behind at the chalet and perform errands (shopping, getting weather forecasts etc.) before cooking and baking ready for your return. If the group is small, evenly matched and everyone has similar aspirations then this will continue for the whole holiday. Alternatively, due to having at least two mountain leaders staffing the trip, we can split the group if necessary with both of us going out daily. We will do this if it becomes apparent that different members of the group want to do different walks.

The Accommodation

For 2008 we have booked various self catering chalets, cottages and lodges. Staying in self catering accommodation gives you several benefits over the more usual B&B based holidays:
• The holiday is more sociable. The whole group gets to stay in one place with a decent communal area rather than being scattered about the nearest village.
• Unlike in a B&B we get the run of the place. If you want to take a rest day you can come and go as you please, watch TV, read a book or even raid the fridge.
• You get a great variety of vegetarian and vegan food in the evenings.
• You have the advantage of having 2 Mountain Leaders with you on the trip giving you a greater breadth of interests and knowledge.

If we fill all the places in our pre-booked accommodation on one specific trip we will attempt to book a second chalet in the immediate area. However, in some of the locations that we visit there are only two cottages next to each other so if the second one gets booked out by someone else before we fill the first we will have to cease booking for that holiday, so book early!!!

waterfall The Food

Good food and nutrition is an integral part of Lupine Adventure walking holidays. When out walking your diet is very important. You need enough of the right kind of foods at the right time to get the best out of your body and therefore make the going easier. It is also easy to undo some of the good that the walks are doing by eating too much fat and sugar. We try and balance the nutritional requirements of your body with the desire to eat really tasty ‘hey we’re on holiday’ food.

All food that we prepare will be vegetarian, most of it will be naturally vegan. If dairy is used by any of the cooks vegan alternatives will always be available and provided if requested. As far as is possible, we source the fresh food that we use from local, organic, co-operative growers to reduce food miles and support the local community. Have a look at our food policy and sample menus page.

We decided to undertake the cooking for the holidays as, being vegetarian and vegan Mountain Leaders, working in the highlands for other holiday companies meant a diet of macaroni cheese, vegetable curry or cheese and tomato pizza for a week.

Having said that, on one night of the week, we will go to a local restaurant for a change of scenery and to give us a night off cooking.

Custom made trips.

If you wish to create your own custom trip similar to those offered here then please get in touch. Basically, we can do as much or as little as you want. We are familiar with many area's of Scotland, the Lake District, North Wales and Yorkshire. Contact us for a quote. We think that you will be pleasantly surprised at the value we offer.
