Giles Lane
Giles spent his childhood wandering the woods and hills of the South Downs with a ferret in one pocket and a catapult in the other. After school he had a variety of jobs, an attempt at an Anthropology degree at university, and quite a bit of time travelling overseas. Eventually he packed his bags and left for the wonders and joys of life in the north of England.
Here he spent 3 great years working as an instructor at an outdoor centre in the Peak District; and then made the step into working as a freelance outdoor instructor, specialising in walking and trekking trips throughout the UK as well as abroad.
As well as plenty of time spent walking, scrambling and climbing in the Britain’s mountains and wild areas; he’s led trekking expeditions to Morocco, Tanzania (summiting Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro) and Kenya (summiting Mount Kenya), and particularly enjoys working with challenging groups.
Giles holds the Summer and International Mountain Leader awards, and is doing his Winter Mountain Leader assessment in 2012. Giles is also a qualified paramedic and has an interest in remote and expedition medicine. Giles is a full member of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (www.baiml.org).
